REQUIREMENTS TO HOME Educate
Parents should start by notifying the superintendent of the school district where they reside about their intent to home educate their child/or children. Notification must be made within five calendar days after commencing home education, moving into a new school district, or withdrawing from a public or nonpublic school, and by the thirtieth (30) day of August each year thereafter.
Form may be sent to the Superintendent of ACOVSD through:
Don Rabold - HomeSchooling Coordinator for Adams County and designee to accept notification forms - don.rabold@brownesc.us
Shari Austin - HomeSchooling Administrative Assistant - shari.austin@ovsd.us
Final step:
Superintendent Wallace will provide acknowledgement letters to families within 14 days of receipt.

NAES had 100% of their families complete the final forms documents by 6:28 a.m. of the 6th day of school. Thank you North Adams Community for taking a few moments to ensure your students have access to the wide array of activities provided by the schools. We have 6 more buildings to get those forms done and a couple are very close to the 100% - who will take second?
Don't know how or have access - call your child's school and they will make arrangements to assist you.

📚✨ WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL, ACOVSD STUDENTS! ✨📚
📢 ATTENDANCE MATTERS!
💪 STRIVE for 5 - ✅ Every Day Counts
🚨 Chronic absenteeism is a nationwide challenge—and we need your help to turn it around.
What is it? Missing 10% or more of the school year (about 18 days) for ANY reason—excused or unexcused. Even tardies count toward this number.
📊 Last year: 27.7% of ACOVSD students were chronically absent.
🎯 State Goal (ODEW): 14.5% or less
Let’s work together to make this our best year yet—show up, stay engaged, and succeed!

Adams County Ohio Valley Students Take Big Steps Toward Bright Futures Through Summer Programs & Certifications
This summer, several students from the Adams County Ohio Valley School District made the most of their break by participating in hands-on career programs and extended certification trainings—all part of a continued investment in their futures. These students, made up of recent graduates and rising seniors, chose to take bold steps toward career success by engaging in real-world experiences designed to align with their individual goals and pathways.
These opportunities were made possible through the GRIT Project in Adams County, which partnered closely with students to help them understand their career assessment results and identify paths that matched their strengths and interests. GRIT coordinated with a variety of partners to make these summer programs a success, including:
OhioMeansJobs (OMJ)
Foundations for the Trades
Shawnee State University
Hocking College
Tri-County Career Center
Local community members who generously donated to ensure every student had what they needed to fully
participate
We are proud to recognize the following students for their initiative, commitment, and courage to step forward into something new:
North Adams High School- Christopher Doughman, Robbie McClellan, Konner Rogers
Peebles High School - Allison Sissel, Braden McCann, Damien McCann, Isabella Farmer, Keira Delk, Carson Reed
West Union High School - Addison Lantz, Braylin Fields, Adriana Moman, Briceton Green, Lea McNeilan, Logan Caldwell, Nina McCann, Yasmine Munoz, James Smith, Kale Garrison
CTC - Emily Stapleton, Gracie Pollitt, Ida Vigal, Kiera Scott, Kennedi Dotson, Chase Lewis, Ryken Copas, Zach Shoemaker
Their willingness to invest in themselves—through certifications, training, and summer learning—reflects a powerful message: The future belongs to those who show up for it. These students showed up, and they shined.
To everyone who helped organize, guide, support, and believe in these students: thank you. We hope we haven’t missed anyone but know that your role was deeply valued. Because of you, doors were opened, needs were met, and futures were strengthened.

Tomorrow, Thursday August 14th, is the first day back to school for all students in grades 1-12. Preschool and Kindergarten students have received information about their delayed start dates. We look forward to an engaging year of learning and growth!

As the 2025-2026 school year begins, it is essential for districts and schools to create engaging environments that foster learning and strong foundations for all students. To support this goal, Ohio law now requires each school district, community school, and STEM school to adopt a policy prohibiting cell phone use by students during the instructional day by Jan. 1, 2026.
An “instructional day” is any period of time in which a student is expected to be in attendance and includes not only formal instruction time but also supervised activities, such as transitioning between classes, recess, meal periods, and field trips.

To support school environments in which students can fully engage with their classmates, their teachers, and instruction, the Board of Education of Adams County Ohio Valley Local Schools (ACOVSD) has determined the use of cell phones by students during school hours should be limited. The objective of this policy is to strengthen ACOVSD’s focus on learning, in alignment with our mission to ignite students’ passion for learning, cultivate a strong foundation of knowledge, and foster a sense of community within our schools.
II. Applicability
This policy applies to the use of cell phones by students while on school property during school instructional hours, as defined by the tardy bell and the dismissal bell.
III. Use of cell phones
Students are prohibited from using cell phones after the morning tardy bell and before the dismissal bell.
IV. Exception
Nothing in this policy prohibits a student from using a cell phone for a purpose documented in the student’s individualized education program developed under Chapter 3323 of the Ohio Revised Code or a plan developed under section 504 of the "Rehabilitation Act of 1973," 29 U.S.C. 794. A student may use a cell phone to monitor or address a documented health concern. Students will be given directives from administration on use during an emergency situation that warrants said use.
V. Cell phone storage
Students shall keep their cell phones in a secure place, such as the student’s locker, a closed
backpack, or a storage device provided by the district, at all times when cell phone use is prohibited.
