Our third-grade classes have successfully completed their unit on the concept of multiplication. In addition, they initiated a community service project in collaboration with the Adams County Humane Society, aligning their learning standards with real-world applications. The students explored how multiplication can be used to support the animal shelter by solving relevant math problems. They also participated in a "Why, When, and Where" activity, discussing how multiplication can benefit the shelter’s operations. As part of this Career Connection initiative, the students explored various careers that involve working with animals. They also engaged in data collection, examining how these careers utilize skills such as math to support animal care and shelter operations. In addition, the students collected essential items for the shelter, including food, toys, treats, and beds, as part of their community service efforts. The class also adopted four pets to shop for during the holiday season, further supporting the shelter’s needs. To enrich the experience, the students read Tails From The Animal Shelter, which provided valuable insights into the daily operations and importance of animal shelters.

Looking forward, we will be having a Christmas Theme Week at NAES, starting Dec. 16th. Each day staff and students can dress accordingly to the theme of that day. On Friday, students do not have school. Staff will be participating since they will be having an in-service day. This is not required. We hope everyone can enjoy the month of December!

Students in kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Willett's WIN (What I Need) class did a research project on US symbols. They chose their symbol, watched two videos about that specific symbol, drew a diagram, then filled out a "can, has, is" chart with information they learned. After they completed their chart, they wrote three sentences about what they learned. The next part of the project was to create a sculpture of their symbol using clay and paint. the final part was to share what they had learned by giving a brief presentation to their classmates! Engaging, hands-on learning at its best!
