More action for the OVCTC FFA at the National Convention in Indianapolis. Sessions, Caterpillar tour, and time at the career expo. The OVCTC Early Childhood Education program worked with our district technology coordinator, Mr. Butcher, to learn about instructional uses of the Epson Interactive Projector. This instructional tool will enhance the classroom experience of the elementary children that the ECE students work with each day!
National FFA Convention has been great for the OVCTC chapter! We have had safe travels and our members have shared in many great experiences! We began our trip with the FFA career show and expo, participated in opening session, attended the World’s Toughest Rodeo, bowled with our friends from Manchester FFA, and made many other new friends and acquaintances. Special thanks to Wood Mizer for hosting our tour of their facility! Students were able to operate one of their portable sawmills and learned about their operation. More to come!
This week, Mr. Palmer took the Auto Tech students and Ag Mechanic students to visit the ODOT garage and hear about the job opportunities there! Automotive Technology senior, Isaac Harding, who is on early placement there, gave us the tour and talked to the students about what he is doing and learning there! Many thanks to the ODOT employees for the tour and taking time to talk to the students .

Many thanks to the OVCTC Health Careers Technology Program and their instructor, Mrs. Grooms, for hosting a Hoxworth Blood Drive in October. 26 pints of blood were donated which equals 78 lives saved!
The Early Childhood Education Program will be sponsoring the Kona Ice Truck during our Parent / Teacher Conferences on Monday evening, October 30th, from 3 - 6 PM. Come to conferences and grab a refreshing, icy treat and support this ECE fundraiser!

The OVCTC Ag Business program would like to thank Mr. Chris Jeffries and Seed Genetics for teaming up with us on our test plots this year. It has been a very fascinating process from start to finish on our school farm corn and soybean plots. Several varieties are tested and researched in a small area to collect data on. Today we witnessed harvest of our corn plot with a special plot combine. The Wintersteiger combine is very unique in that in is split down the middle and can collect data on two pairs of rows at one time- gathering yield, moisture, and test weight. Everyone can see the process from planting to harvest in our videos and photographs. Again, thank you Mr. Jeffries and Seed Genetics for working with us! Thanks also to Grant McIntosh and Winchester Ag Service for getting us in contact!
Ms. Johnson's Community Service class hosted an "80's Rock" costume contest to raise money for a local cause / organization. Congratulations to the student winner, AJ Stephenson and our staff winner, Mr. Crump! Just over $100 was raised for a local cause!

The juniors in Mrs. Grooms' Health Careers Technology lab have been practicing putting on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
The OVCTC and Pickaway-Ross CTC SkillsUSA officer teams participated in a Zoom meeting this week to begin planning a collaborative service project that could serve the citizens of our counties! Thank you to our SkillsUSA officers for taking on the leadership role to plan & execute this future initiative!
Recently, our OVCTC SkillsUSA officer team hosted a visit with the State Advisor for the organization, Mrs. Jackie Miller. All SkillsUSA members in the building were engaged in team-building activities and the students learned more about competitive opportunities in the organization!
This week, Mr. Cooper's CNC Machining Lab received the Haas ST 25 Lathe. This is a great tool / resource for students to develop their milling skills. This lathe has a touch screen display and can take material 3 inches in diameter through the liner and it has a 12 tool turret that can run up to 10,000 RPM. While most of us won't understand these industry specifications, just know that our students are fortunate to learn their trade with this type of equipment! A huge thank you to Pro Mechanical in Panhandle for bringing us the equipment to move this lathe into the lab!
Mr. Palmer's Junior Automotive Technology Lab heard a presentation today from Travis Bell of the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH). Students learned about the training and certifications that are a part of their associate's degree programs.
The OVCTC is so proud of Caden Luck and Gabe Thatcher of the Ag Mechanics program. The "Res Q Cart" started as a buddy project in the shop for the FFA division at the Adams County Fair. We are proud of the ownership taken in the project, from start to finish. The Ag Mechanics program is proud to donate this cart to our first responder heros. We know the West Union EMTs will put the equipment to good use. We hope our project can help others in the community!
Recently, Mr. Chris Harover of the National Bank of Adams County spoke to our OVCTC Seniors about "Banking 101" and making sound financial decisions as they enter the workforce!
