Alexis Blevins & Anthony Young, juniors in our CNC Machining Program made new chuck jaws for the new ST15 HAAS Lathe machine to replace the original jaws. These jaws originally cost $600 so the students made jaws that will take insert jaws so the program doesn’t have to buy a new set of jaws everytime a different job is run. The students can just replace the inserts for different jobs.

The PBIS Committee is a group of teachers at the Ohio Valley Career and Technical Center who promote good behavior in their student body. They are doing activities to promote behavior that is PROfessional, PROficient and PROductive among the students. Some of the categories are: following directions, positive language, acts of kindness, present and on time, honest, on task, following safety rules, reporting safety hazards, using equipment appropriately and other forms of good behavior. This can occur in the classroom, hallway, cafeteria, lab and other places where school functions occur. Students are recognized for making A’s and B’s as well. There are special events that are planned throughout the year to reward this type of behavior in hopes of reducing negative behavior. Also, all teachers at the CTC are given pro-cards to reward their students for good behavior. So far this year, we have had a movie and popcorn day where those with good grades can attend. Students can earn 1,2, or 3 points for the positive things that they are recognized for. They can save these to spend later or spend them in the Career Cafe which is an on-site mock restaurant for culinary students to learn skills in working and managing a restaurant. They actually serve food that any employee or student can buy 2 to 3 days a week. They can also get haircuts in the Cosmetology department where students are studying, learning and practicing skills to become licensed cosmetologists. The PBIS Committee also has a PRO Store where students can purchase items with their points on the cards. This operates on a large cart and students can buy from once a week in the cafeteria area. We also have a special display case that features students that have been selected by their program director who have exhibited exceptional behavior in their program. The students in this picture were selected for the PBIS Spotlight display case. The students pictured received a PRO card and a certificate in recognition of their good behavior.
