Throwback Thursday
A happy ending to the season came for the Varsity Lady Dragons because of the outstanding job they did in the Sectional and District Tournaments.
The team’s overall record was thirteen wins and eleven loses. They placed fourth in the SHL with a record of seven wins and four loses. The team won the Sectional Tournament and was runner-up in the District.
Tiffany Purdy, Angie Grooms, Melissa May, and Natalee Blanton led the team in scoring, while Purdy, Grooms, and Tracy Purdy had the best rebounding. The highest free-throw percentage belongs to Paula Butler, Natalee Blanton, Amanda Bevens, and Tiffany Purdy.
Wins over Portsmouth West and Piketon made the Lady Dragons Sectional champs. In District tournament action, they defeated Albany Alexander, but fell to Unioto in the finals.
Many awards went to key players. Angie Grooms and Tiffany Purdy were named to the all SHL team, and along with Natalee Blanton they were named WRAC All-Stars. Purdy was named to the Southeastern District Second team while Angie Grooms was Honorable Mention in the District.
Coach Kramer was proud of the team and was happy this season had a happy ending.

Teachers will be calling parents and guardians who have requested a phone conference. Any parent or guardian who is interested in discussing a student's performance may email a teacher directly to request a phone call or call Mrs. Stephanie Stephenson at the high school at 937-544-5553 ext. 61010. When requesting a phone call, please provide your name, the name of the student, the teacher or teachers with whom you would like to speak, and the best phone number for teachers to call. Parents and guardians may also provide the best window of time for teachers to reach them, but please be aware that we will not be able to schedule a specific time for the call, and if demand is high at a certain time, teachers may have to call outside of the window of time provided. Please contact the school by 2:00 pm on March 24th to request a phone conference. We appreciate your understanding and assistance as we work to maintain the safety of our staff and community while meeting the needs of our students.

West Union School is proud to be participating in Throwback Thursday where we can honor our rich Dragon heritage.
For the first time in the history of the Southern Hills League the Dragons won the championship with an undefeated record of 11-0. The undisputed league champs had an overall record of 19-4. This outstanding team provided great excitement for the students, parents, and the community.
Reflecting on the season Coach Fossitt stated that there are three outstanding memories: the best quarter was the first played at Lynchburg, as we outscored them 32-6; the best outside scoring game was against Manchester, where we scored six three-point goals on the way to a score of 88-50; and finally, defeating Belpre to the District Tournament Championship.
The top scorers on the team were Craig Campbell and Blaine Roush. Campbell led the team with 18 points per game, while Roush averaged 17 ppg. Both were named to the Southeastern Ohio District team, Roush on the first team and Campbell on the second team.
Roush led the team in rebounds with an average of eleven per game., followed by Robby Hawkins with six per game.
In the four post-season tournament games Roush scored 85 points for an average of 22 ppg while Troy Grooms scored 75 points in those games.
John Shelton was named the Most Valuable Player in the Shawnee State Holiday Classic. He came in the game and netted a total of 32 points in two games.
