REMINDER: Peebles High School & Peebles Elementary invite all Veterans to join us on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 1:15 p.m. to Honor All Who Serve in a Veterans Day Parade! The Veterans Day Parade will begin at the High School and circle around to the Elementary School. Veterans should begin arriving around 12:30 p.m. in the PHS parking lot. PHS students will assist Veterans in parade line up and leading them. NOTE: Unfortunately, due to guidelines regarding COVID, this event is currently not scheduled to be open to the public for attendance. Only the veterans and their drivers/guests will be parading (in vehicles). NO SCHOOL, Thursday, November 11th in observance of Veterans Day!

PES is excited to announce our first 2021-22 community partnership opportunity!!! On November 8, we will start our Achieve for a Bead program. Students will be given a key chain on which to collect beads for reading; the top bead-earning class in each grade level receives a pizza party, the student who earns the most beads in each class will earn Scholastic dollars to purchase books, and the top student in each grade will receive a Peebles Indian shirt! To earn beads, students can take a book of their choice to the businesses on the attached calendar during the business's scheduled time to read; if the student does not have a book, the business will have some books available to choose from. Each visit/reading session earns a bead! The businesses will have the beads to give to students as they leave each visit. This program will run from November 8-January13. At that time, students' beads will be tallied and prizes awarded. Help us foster a love of reading and help students earn rewards!!! Get your child(ren) to these local businesses at these times to get started! You do NOT have to go every time or to every business. Choose dates and times or business locations to visit that are convenient for you and your family!! These are the scheduled times for this month (calendar image attached). Each month, Peebles Elementary will recognize 2 staff members as Staff Member of the Month. We are asking parents, students and other staff to nominate a staff member of their choice. You may only nominate one person per month!!! It can be a teacher, aide, cook, custodian, bus driver, administrator, secretary, counselor, etc. Anyone who works at Peebles Elementary full-time is eligible for nomination. We will be hosting our online Fall auction of class/grade level baskets and baked goods TODAY from approximately 9 a.m.-2 p.m. We will post pictures and descriptions, a separate post for each item. If you would like to bid, just make a comment with your bid amount on that post/item. The last bid at 2 p.m. wins the item(s). Pick-up of the items will occur today during conference time from 4-7 p.m. in our front office. All proceeds from this auction go directly back to the class or grade level hosting the items!!! Thank you to all parents for helping make our first Fall Fun Day a great success! The students have enjoyed the events! Every student will come home with a pie pumpkin today; if your child(ren) would like to decorate their pumpkins, we will be hosting a Pumpkin Decorating Contest on Monday. If he/she would like to participate, he/she can decorate the pumpkin over the weekend and bring the pumpkin back to school on Monday. Please be sure the student's name is on the bottom of the pumpkin. Also, next week is Red Ribbon Week and these are the dress-up days: Monday, October 25- “Let’s Stick Together to be Drug Free” (Wear school spirit attire OR Red, white and blue) Tuesday, October 26- “My Future is Bright Without Drugs” (Wear bright/neon colors and sunglasses) Wednesday, October 27- “Team Up Against Drugs” (Wear favorite sports team shirt/jersey) Thursday, October 28- “Be a Hero, Be Drug Free” (Wear camouflage) Friday, October 29-”Say Boo to Drugs” (Wear your Halloween costume. No full face masks, face paint or other props. School attire rules apply.)

Don’t forget that Fall Fun Day is tomorrow!! We will be outside for the hayride and pumpkin patch. The temperature is forecasted in the 50s and low 60s, so be sure your kiddos wear long pants and bring a jacket! We have encouraged staff and students to dress for Fall in boots, flannels, hoodies, etc.

REMINDERS: Early Dismissal TODAY, October 21st for teachers to enter grades. PES will dismiss at approximately 2:15 p.m. Parents entering the pick-up line should NOT be in line any earlier than 1:45 p.m. Parent-Teacher Conferences are this evening (as scheduled by teachers), Thursday, October 22nd, and next Tuesday, October 26th (from 4-7 p.m.) Fall Book Fair will be open to the public this evening from 4-7 p.m. in our school library! If you forgot to send permission forms and money with your child for Fall Fun Day, we must have that today in order for your child to participate in the hayride (form for permission/waiver of liability must be on file). Pee wee basketball/cheerleading sign-ups will be at Peebles High School in the Round Room tonight (Thursday, October 14) and tomorrow (Friday, October 15) from 8-8:30 p.m., both evenings. Cheerleaders' cost is $10, and players' cost is $30. This is for grades 2-6. These will be the final sign-up dates.

During the month of October, Peebles Elementary School will be doing different activities to promote kindness. To kick-off Kindness Month and to show support for World Day of Bullying Prevention, we are encouraging students/staff to wear BLUE on Monday, October 4.

We excited to be offering the Scholastic Book Fair to students again this year!!!!! Our book fair will be held for students to visit on scheduled days (to be shared by teachers) between October 18-22. Congratulations to Peebles Elementary School's September and October Staff Members of the Month!!! September: Justin Smith, 6th Grade Social Studies Teacher October: Laurie Grissom, 4th Grade Math Teacher Some of the comments shared in the nominations include: "Mr. Smith should be staff member of the month because he pushes us to be our best, he is funny, he is kind, and he is patient with us if we do not understand something." Mr. Smith: "makes my day better" Mr. Smith: "In the short time I've known him, he has shown that he truly cares for his students....He made my son feel safe, included, and listened to my son when he needed to talk." Mrs. Grissom: "she makes learning fun" Mrs. Grissom: "She is really nice and doesn't yell a lot. She helps our class with things we don't know, and she is just really fun in general."
