The Adams County Ohio Valley Schools will conduct Kindergarten Registration for the upcoming school year. If you have a child that is five years old on or before August 1, 2025, please mark your calendar and plan to attend kindergarten registration at the elementary school your child will be attending. All three elementary schools (North Adams Elementary, Peebles Elementary, and West Union Elementary) will conduct kindergarten registration on the following dates:
Thursday, March 6, 12:00-7:00 PM
or
Thursday, March 13, 3:00-6:00 PM
A parent or guardian will need to bring the following documents to kindergarten registration:
Proof of Residency - documentation of parent/guardian’s address (water bill, telephone bill, etc.) A driver’s license is not acceptable proof of residency.
Child’s Birth Certificate
Shot Record
Custody Papers (if applicable)
It is important to register in March and plan for the upcoming school year. Please plan to attend kindergarten registration on Thursday, March 6, 12:00 – 7:00 PM or Thursday, March 13, 3:00 – 6:00 PM.
All students who register will receive a free t-shirt. We are excited to meet the class of 2028!
West Union Elementary kicked off our Read Across America Celebration with several guest readers. A special thank you to Dawn Wallace, Katrina Wagoner, Representative Justin Paluzzi, and Patricia Funk for taking the time out of their busy schedules to share their love of reading with our students.
West Union High School will have a spring meet the team night on March 14th @ 5:30.
Last week, Patty Dillow from The National Bank of Adams County spoke to the students about her career and various opportunities within the banking industry.
On Friday students in the aeronautics careers class heard from Tiffany DeMint. Mrs. DeMint shared her role in developing and protecting new technologies and products that are developed at General Electric.
West Union Elementary is excited to offer students the opportunity to sign up for elective classes for the 2025-2026 school year! Each student is required to select one class in Fine Arts, one in Physical Education, and one in Technology. Additionally, they may choose up to 12 other elective classes.
Course availability will be determined by student demand.
Students can sign up in the gym during STEM Night on Tuesday, March 4th, and in the MakerSpace during Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday, March 6th.

Baylee Tolle of @magicalmemorieswithbaylee spoke with students in the career class about her second career as a travel agent. She shared with students how she is able to help her customers experience less stress and worry by allowing a travel agent to plan for them while saving them money.
Justin Greenlee from SOMC spoke with students in the medical careers class on Friday about his career as a General Practitioner. He encouraged students to stay active and healthy.

The book fair will be held next week. Kindergarten through 3rd grade will visit during their library encore.

3. STEM Night:
On Tuesday, March 4th, from 6:00-8:00 PM, we’ll host our annual STEM Night. We have many exciting activities planned, and we look forward to seeing students and their families. This event continues to grow each year.
4. Parent-Teacher Conferences:
Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, March 6th, from 3:30-6:30 PM. You should have already received sign-up information.

During STEM Night on Tuesday and Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday, parents of students in 3rd-6th grade can help them choose their elective classes for the upcoming year. Later this week, you will receive a text with the course catalog. Our students have enjoyed these classes and have learned so much, and we’re excited to continue building on this experience.

2. March 6th will be PT conferences.
3. The book fair will be March 3rd - 7th. It will also be open during STEAM night and PT conferences.
4. Students who will be in grades 3rd - 6th during the 2025-2026 school year will be able to sign up for their elective classes during STEAM night and PT conferences. This will allow parents to provide input on the classes their children take.
5. School WILL BE in session on March 7th for all students. This was supposed to be an in-service day but the in-service day has been moved to May 6th.

A special thanks to Erica Pertuset from the Adams County Health Department for speaking to the Medical Careers class about the nursing profession. Erica shared her experiences as a school nurse, as well as her previous roles in nursing. She encouraged students to study hard and pursue their goals in the field.
Ryen Shiveley of Family Traditions Animal Adventure spoke to the Service Careers class on Friday, sharing his passion for animals and the many responsibilities involved in running his own zoo. He encouraged students to research and follow up on the animals he discussed. Ryen is a perfect example of someone who is making his dreams come true.
Students enjoyed a "cool" tractor parade today as the Ohio Valley Career and Technical Center celebrated FFA week. They enjoyed seeing the different tractors and voted on their favorite one!
Technical Sergeant Vincent Foulk of the United States Air Force shared valuable insights with the Aeronautics Careers class about the wide range of job opportunities available in the Air Force. From pilots to mechanics and accountants, he highlighted the diverse roles that contribute to the success of the Air Force.

The Code Scholar Program is cancelled for this afternoon.
Michael Reynolds, a professor at Shawnee State University, shared about the world of video game design and the number of careers involved in creating video games. Students were highly engaged asking lots of questions.
On Thursday students in the Arts Career class had the opportunity to hear professional photographer Sam James share about his career. Students loved the photographs that he shared and learned more about the wildlife on their own backyards!
